#8 Aleeah Gould vs. #6 Emily Shilson
Shilson all over Gould. She’s good at getting to legs & working through the position to get her takedowns. And her guts and laces are elite. Gets the 10-0 tech fall.

#5 Erin Golston vs. #10 Nina Pham
Golston looking next level. She’s part of that top 6 women that have separated from the pack. Relentless offense against a feisty Nina Pham.

#7 Felicity Taylor vs. #6 Alisha Howk
Not much action in first. 1-0 at the break. More of the same in the second. These two are very similar and holding position. Battle of shot clock points. 2-1 when time expired. After failed challenge on step out call, Howk wins it 3-1.

#4 Alex Hedrick vs. #9 Jaclyn Gallegos
Gallegos fires off a shot in first 5 seconds. Then another quick leg attack once back on feet. Built quick 4-0 lead early in first. Hedrick comes from behind to win it 8-6! Dramatic final minute.

#12 Amanda Martinez vs. #10 Lauren Louive
Martinez can match Louive’s heavy handed style. Let’s see…
Nope. Louive too much for the younger Martinez. 12-2 tech fall for the veteran Louive.

#9 Cheyenne Sisenstein vs. #4 Abby Nette
Intriguing matchup. Not sure who wins this. Nette is the older veteran but Sisenstein has been coming hard.
Was tight with Sisenstein hold a 2-1 lead at the end of the second when Nette finished a single that transitioned into a fall by hooking the arm from the whizzer.

#4 Emma Bruntil vs. #9 Ana Luciano
Good battle coming up of two college stars.
Emma jumps out to 5-0 win at the break.
Emma doesn’t stop the momentum. Relentless attacks. Closed door defense. 11-0 Bruntil.

#7 Desiree Zavala vs. # 6 Julia Salata
Salata owns the most recent win in this rivalry.
Zavala runs up the score to 8-1 at the break!
Julia in on legs twice but not able to finish. Scary looking rubber knee for Zavala called off twice.
Make that three rubber knees.

#5 Ashlynn Ortega vs. #9 Felicity Bryant
Ortega too good technically. Leads 5-1 at break.
Finds a lace in the second to win it 13-1.
Advances to face Alex Glaude. These two have gone back and forth in tough matches over the last two years. Should be good match!

Bell wants to win this. Runs through Kimber 10-0.
She’ll face Guilford…again.

#5 Yelena Makoyed vs. #9 Jordan Nelson
Makoyed doing Makoyed things. Was already up 6-0 after a minute. Up 9-0 when she gets the fall at 1:43.
Makoyed will face Cataline. But will she wrestle? Cataline took her shoes off yesterday. Hmm.

Emily shoots, Conder counters for the score. Conder up 4-0 at the break.

Slow match that feels like a chess match.
Hedrick holds on for the razor thin 2-1 win! She’ll face one-time teammate Parrish in Consi Finals.

#5 Cameron Guerin vs. #10 Lauren Louive
Guerin’s technique too much! She gets the 5-1 win over the veteran Louive. She’ll face winner of Nette-XMP.

#4 Abby Nette vs. #3 XMP
Last time it was XMP with a shocking tech fall over Nette in finals of U23. Time for rematch!
Back and forth match. Nette was on back from signature XMP headlock early but got out.
This time it’s Nette 6-3!

#5 Jennifer Page vs. #7 Desiree Zavala
Page dominates to an 11-0 tech fall. Will face winner of Bruntil-Velte.

#4 Emma Bruntil vs. #3 Mallory Velte
Last time it was all Velte at the Captain’s Cup, though they split matches in 2019.
Emma holds on for 2-2 criteria win! Dramatic finish as Bruntil defended Velte’s attacks. She’ll have another rematch with Jennifer Page. Page won earlier this tournament but the previous two it was Bruntil.

Boyd looking tough. Finishes match with a 4-point duplex for a 12-0 tech fall.

Alex Glaude vs. Ashlynn Ortega
This match has some history. In the last three, it’s 2-1 Glaude.
Let’s see if Ortega can crack Glaude’s defense.

Cataline won’t wrestle Consi Semi. Makoyed advances to Consolation Finals. She’ll face winner of Bell vs. Guilford.

Dymond Guilford vs. Precious Bell
All Guilford. Gets to her go to single & laces Bell. Pretty long stoppage for injury time as Bell seemed to hurt her knee. Guilford hits a 4-pointer to finish it 14-1. She’ll face Makoyed for the U.S. national team spot.

National team spot on the line.
Close match until Lampe locks up a near side cradle for the fall! She gets the #3 spot on U.S. team. #1 Challenge Tournament seed Conder falls all the way down to #4.

53: Dominique Parrish vs. Alex Hedrick
Battle of two one-time teammates. This match has happened before. Parrish had the edge in the two matches they had in WCWA national finals.

Parrish 3-0 at the break.
Parrish wins it 9-4.

57 kg: Cameron Guerin vs. Abby Nette
Close one. 2-1 Nette at the break.
Nette holds on in position battle to win it 3-1.

62 kg: Jennifer Page vs. Emma Bruntil
Page vs. Bruntil, Part 4!
These two are always close. 1-0 Bruntil at the break.
Page gets 4 in one takedown-turn sequence early in second.
4-1 final for Page!

68 kg: Alara Boyd vs. Alex Glaude
Battle of McKendree teammates!
Shot clock battle 1-1 with a minute left on the clock when Boyd needed injury time. Wrapped head.
A couple more points and it’s 2-2 Glaude for 3rd!

76 kg: Dymond Guilford vs. Yelena Makoyed
Senior level #2 ranked Guilford against NCAA champ.
Weird scoring caused Cardinal WC to throw a brick. Says 10-1 but makes no sense, Should be 6-4 one would think.

Challenge comes out 8-3 Guilford which still doesn’t make much sense. Looked like Makoyed got a takedown & turn when down 6-0, so…

OK now they say 9-3…???

Anyway…action continues briefly and Makoyed is down with injury time on ankle.
Guilford wins it 9-6.

TRUE 3RD MATCHES

50 kg: Amy Fearnside vs. Alyssa Lampe for the #3 team spot!
Both come out firing! Great match. Typical of all their recent battles as this time Lampe comes out in 1-point match 6-5 to win the team spot.

68 kg: Forrest Molinari vs. Alex Glaude
Glaude can’t wrestle her defensive, control-the-score style as Molinari matches her horsepower and plays the same game, only slightly (in recent history) better. 2-0 Molinari at the break.

Efficient match by Molinari. Wins it 5-0 & secures #3 team spot.

76 kg: Victoria Francis vs. Dymond Guilford
Rematch of a rivalry owned recently by Guilford.
Francis went out 5-0 early. 5-2 at the break.
Francis by fall! Gets it at 4:29 and secures #3 spot on national team.

53 kg: Jacarra Winchester vs. Ronna Heaton, Match 1 - Jakarta moving Ronna & getting points with takedowns & pushouts. Had Heaton off the mat on her shoulders at one point. Tried to go big but it only ended up 2 with a reversal by Ronna. 5-2 at the break. Ronna is in this! 7-4 Winchester final. But that’s got to give Heaton some confidence that she can stay with the world champion.

62 kg Kayla Miracle vs. Macey Kilty, Match 1 - Defensive battle deep into first period. Meanwhile, Take-Burroughs on next mat. With less than a minute on clock in first, Miracle gets a takedown and turns. 6-0 at the break. Kilty climbs back in second but it’s not enough. It’s Miracle 8-4.

68 kg Tamyra Mensah-Stock vs. Kennedy Blades, Match 1 - Blades scored first & crowd went nuts. Mensah-Stock comes back to make it 4-2 at the break. Blades scores again but Mensah-Stock pours it on. Wins it 12-4, but Blades goes all 6 minutes and scores twice. Got to be encouraging against perhaps the best P4P wrestler in the world!

50 kg Sarah Hildebrandt vs. Victoria Anthony, Match 1 - Anthony aggressive early and gets the first 2. They’re on mat right next to Kyle Snyder vs. Kollin Moore. Sarah volleys back to make it 2-2 at the break. She leads with criteria. Hildebrandt counters Anthony’s shot into her own takedown & match-ending lace. 12-2 Hildebrandt, match 1.

57 kg Helen Maroulis vs. Jenna Burkert, Match 1 - Burkert strike first! And it’s 2-0 at the break. Has Burkert finally closed the gap? Helen Maroulis roars back with big second period to win match 1 by score of 5-3. Jenna looking strong though. Great match. Probably the best match Burkert has given Maroulis.

76 kg Adeline Gray vs. Kylie Welker, Match 1 - Was 0-0 halfway through first but once Gray got on top, it was over with her world class turns. 10-0 at 1:59. Match 1 goes to Gray.

68 kg Tamyra Mensah-Stock vs. Kennedy Blades, Match 2
Can Blades close the gap? Here we go. Kennedy scores first again! Starts with a pushout. TMS gets 2 near the end of first to make it 2-1 at the break. All TMS in second. 8-1 win. Mensah-Stock is going to Tokyo! Blades was applauding for TMS and gave her a hug moments after the match. Ovation for TMS from the crowd.

Crowd applauded Blades with ovation as she left the arena too.

53 kg: Jacarra Winchester vs. Ronna Heaton, Match 2
Time for match #2. Winchester coming out with faster pace in second match. Scores three takedowns in first minute. Gets one more to go to break 8-0. Almost got another one. Heaton gets a double to start second period. 8-2 before Winchester hits a 4 to win it 12-2! Very emotional for her on the mat. She’s an Olympian!

62 kg Kayla Miracle vs. Macey Kilty, Match 2
They’re on the mat for round 2. Lots of stalemates early. Shot clock point for Miracle until late in the second when Miracle gets 2 on a double leg. Goes to break 2-1 Kilty.

Kilty gets another takedown and holds on for the 4-3 win! We’re going to 3 matches!

57 kg Helen Maroulis vs. Jenna Burkert, Match 2
Women are being introduced. Maroulis goes up 1-0 but then Burkert gets a double & turn to go up 4-1. Crowd erupts with the exchange. Maroulis responds with her own takedown-turn. 5-4 Maroulis. Burkert responds! takedown in final 30 seconds to win it 6-5! We’re going to 3rd match!

76 kg Adeline Gray vs. Kylie Welker, Match 2
Time for round 2. Same script. Once Gray got on top, it was over. 10-0 tech & Olympian again for Gray!

50 kg Sarah Hildebrandt vs. Victoria Anthony, Match 2
Sarah gets it going early this time. 4-0 at the break. Extends lead early in second with another takedown. Another one. Make that 8-0. She’s unstoppable. Ankle pick ends it! Olympic adventure ahead for Hildebrandt!

FINALS, ROUND 3

62 kg Kayla Miracle vs. Macey Kilty, Match 3
Miracle comes out firing. Takedown & lace. Kilty cried out & looks hurt. They haven’t awarded 2 for the lace yet. Scoreboard says 2-0. Kilty still on the mat.

Now she’s up walking it off. She’s ready to go.

She starts down & gets laced again. Obviously in pain. It’s over.

HOLY COW! Foot sweep by Maroulis puts Burkert right to her back moments after the whistle blows and she gets the fall! And that’s it!! Maroulis is going back to the Olympics!
