Your Guide to Super 32 Women: Entries, Ranked Girls & Predictions

It’s time for Super 32! The tournament maxed out their numbers and is locked & loaded with talent from the U.S. and Canada. We go weight by weight to give you a preview of Super 32 as some of the best young women in the western hemisphere get ready to battle it out in Greensboro, NC.

As we go through the weights, you’ll see the AWW nationally-ranked girls at the top along with what we ranked them by their names. Keep in mind Super 32 weights are different than the USAW weights we use to create rankings. You’ll also see every entry at each weight. Unranked doesn’t mean these girls didn’t make All-American at some point, as the field is loaded with AA’s from every level, including some age-level All-Americans that could shock everyone. I’ll include my prediction at each weight and you can make yours. Let’s see how we do in our virtual “pick’em” at Super 32!

#4 Jessica Corredor, a senior, seems to be the favorite here, though she shouldn’t take freshman #6 Alex Szkotnicki lightly. Maryland’s Szkotnicki made a Cadet World Team this year, and won gold at the Vorobyeva Cup in Russia just a few weeks ago. Can she pull the upset? In the end, I think Corredor’s maturity will be too much for her. Title prediction: Jessica Corredor

Sahagun is ranked #7 because her folkstyle results have been slightly lower than her freestyle results. But this is freestyle where Sahagun is coming off a 2nd place finish in the Junior division at Fargo, including an 8-8 win over Corredor by criteria in the semis. Though #5 Fitch is a tough out, I think you’ll see Sahagun on top of the podium in the end. Title prediction: Rayana Sahagun

Lots of talent in this one with seven ranked girls, and a young middle school talent named Carina Giangeruso in the field that could do who-knows-what. She took 5th in U15 last May in Texas. There’s also a freshman named Olivia Messerly (ranked #12) in the group that is scary good. She beat AWW’s #5 ranked Faith Cole twice in the finals of U15 last May, and that got our attention. If Olivia, her family, or her coaches think she’s a secret, someone tell them the cat’s out of the bag. All that said, in the end, the experienced and technically-sound Caitlyn Walker will be the one to beat. But don’t expect all the other hammers to go quietly. Title prediction: Caitlyn Walker

Who takes this group? Gotta stick with our American girl! But between you, me, and that stink bug on the wall over there, looking across the mat at Di Benedetto makes me a little nervous. Again, stacked with ranked girls, this time ten. But this one includes #1 Cheyenne Bowman and #4 Reese Larramendy from Wyoming Sem. The USAW-FloWrestling rankings actually had Larremendy at #1, so I guess you could say it’s the battle of two #1’s! This is gonna be lit. Grab your popcorn. Of course, they have to get through other hammers if we’re gonna see that matchup, as #7 at 132, Marisol Nugent, and #7 at 138, Sara Sulejmani, have their own plans. It’s our #2 ranked Isabeau Shalack and everybody else, though there are a few other TOP25’ers here, like #18 Riley Dempewolf and #22 Andrea Smith. I’m almost tempted to pick Dempewolf because she has an awesome name, but I’m sticking with Shalack, who doesn’t have a bad name either. The homonym of “Shalack” is “shallac,” which of course means: “defeat or beat someone decisively.” That’s what she will do at Super 32. Title prediction: Isabeau Shalack
